Visitor Activities

The Estates have always actively encouraged local people from their communities to enjoy both the Douglas and Hirsel Estates Policies on a relatively informal basis.

However, in the early 1980s, Lady Caroline Douglas-Home (who was the Hirsel Estate Factor between 1959 & 1995) created the Homestead Craft Centre and Museum of Country Life and, as a result, the visitor activities began to evolve into a business entity of its own, with more formal way-marked walks, a museum, tea room, craft workshops as well as other occasional events (craft fairs, caravan rallies and scout camps).  These have continued to evolve into what is now the Hirsel Homestead.

The result being that both Estates now have their own unique attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy.
